Percentage of low birthweight (live births < 2.5 kg)

Definition:

  • Percentage of low birthweight (live births < 2.5 kg) refers to proportion of live births where the baby weighs less than 2.5 kilograms (kg) or 5.5 pounds (lbs) at birth. LBW babies are more susceptible to health problems, including infections, breathing difficulties, and developmental delays. Monitoring LBW rates helps assess maternal and child health at the population level.
