Definition:

  • Gender Parity Index for primary level enrolment is the ratio of the number of female students enrolled at the primary level of education to the number of male students.
  • GPI = (Number of girls enrolled in primary education / Number of boys enrolled in primary education) x 100
  • A GPI of 100 indicates perfect gender parity, meaning there is an equal number of girls and boys enrolled in primary education. A GPI below 100 suggests that there are fewer girls enrolled than boys, while a GPI above 100 indicates that there are more girls enrolled than boys.
